One gym on McCool Road, found from thirteen towns

Brand and social for a Valparaiso jiu-jitsu gym, then a 37-page site with town pages built on real drive times, beginner guides and a merch shop. Live since September 29, 2026.

01The situation
KDL Combatives logo

KDL Combatives is Keith's gym on McCool Road, on the west edge of Valparaiso right on the Portage line: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and practical self-defense for everyday adults, with a first class that is free. It had a strong room, a strong logo and a Facebook page, and not much else online.

Keith's worry was simple. There is one location. How does a single gym reach Portage, Chesterton, Crown Point and the rest of the county without pretending to be somewhere it is not?

02What we did

01The Hive, on social first

We started with the feed. The bee emblem became the hive, class times became the hook, and the posts answer the questions people actually type before they walk in: when is class, how far is the drive, who teaches Wednesday mornings, can anybody come to open mat. New members get a welcome post. The gym's own merch got photographed and posted when it arrived.

02A site with one honest location

The site is built on the same stack as every SIGIL site: Next.js on Vercel, security headers on, forms that deliver. Program pages lead with the art, then a real class photo, then a short brief. About is a class photo and two short bios, no instructor cards. The shop shows the real stickers and shirt in whole frames.

Then the reach work. We geocoded the gym and built a hub of thirteen town pages, each with a real drive time (about 8 minutes from Portage, about 17 from downtown Valpo) and copy written for that town. No second location, no nearest-gym claims, no made-up testimonials. Nine beginner guides, a glossary of 26 terms, an open-mat page with event schema, a beginners hub, and schema that tells Google exactly which towns the gym serves.

03Launch and the ads tag

kdlcombatives.com went live on September 29, 2026. The next day the Google Ads tag went on site-wide, with call-tap and free-class-form conversions wired so the first campaign can be measured from day one. The booking form was confirmed working by Keith from his phone.

04What we’d tell another owner
  • 01A single-location business reaches a region with honest town pages and real drive times, not with fake branches.
  • 02Lead with the real class photo. Stock fighters and cropped merch shots both got sent back; whole frames of the actual room did not.
  • 03Put the ads tag and the conversions on before the first campaign, not after.
